A 30-room hotel in the office district of downtown Tokyo. The site is narrow in frontage and deep in depth, but we decided to use the depth to distance the hotel from the bustle of the city.
The front desk is approached through an alley beside the tenant space, leading to the back of the building. The small space created in the gap between the front desk and the neighbors is used as a light garden, welcoming the traveler in a quiet space away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
We didn’t want to open the windows from the guest rooms to the outside where the office buildings stare at each other, so we sandwiched a refuge balcony and void between the facade and the windows.
Through the slit-like voids, light shines into the rooms, and the presence of the city can be felt. Our goal was to create a hotel where travelers who have enjoyed the bustle of Tokyo can distance themselves from the noise and get a deep sleep.
